Edith Nisberg
I have a Master's Degree in reading and retired in 2003 as a certified reading teacher in Westchester County. I studied modern prose and advanced writing in a special summer program at Yale University, and recently received a diploma from the Institute of Children's Literature in recognition of writing for children and teenagers.
I have a special love for teaching reading and writing to students and founded a publishing company for students at the school where I taught. Students were encouraged to write on a variety of topics, fiction and non-fiction, and their work was laminated and bound into books. On a special day called Author Day, in June, the entire school was rewarded for their writing efforts. Students read and dramatized their works on stage and shared this day with the community. Over 7500 books have been published.
Prior to my teaching career, I was a stock broker on Wall Street and this experience, together with my love for teaching, motivated me to write A GARDEN CARRIED IN THE POCKET, A MAGIC BUTTON TO WALL STREET. The book is fiction, rooted in non-fiction information. Its purpose is to inspire young people to learn more about Wall Street, the stock market, the economy, and social studies concepts. The humor, rich language, and story line make this book a valuable possession for every youngster.
When I am not reading or writing, I enjoy my time with my two young grandsons, who also enjoy reading and writing with me.
Currently, I have my own Reading and Writing Office in White Plains where I teach children on an individual basis: I teach essay writing, creative writing and reading. My love for teaching children can only be surpassed by their success.
In June, 2004 I received a proclamation from the American Biographical Institute selecting me as a great woman of the 21st century for superior dedication and professional integrity.
In July, 2005 the Manchester Who's Who recognized me as an honorary member.
Recently inducted into the AMERICAN HALL OF FAME by authority of American Biographical Institute.
I celebrate each day with a professional adventure, designing and integrating reading and writing goals for students. The excitement of working with children has remained undiminished by time. I have written other manuscripts for children and look forward to publishing them someday.
